Having recently marked 40 years of success, it is fantastic to be able to not only reduce the environmental impact of our clients’ facilities but also within our own business. We are proud to fly the flag for the West Midlands in our sector so it meant a great deal to be able to work with a range of clients in our sector to tackle net zero.

In one sentence, what is your ambition for your Net Zero Business Pledge: To achieve net zero in our own operations and to assist our clients towards the same target

Please tell us why you have made the West Midlands Net Zero Business Pledge: As a company specialising in the installation and maintenance of commercial heating, ventilation and hot water systems we are committed to improving energy efficiency within our sector. Specialising in retrofitting and energy efficiency improvements to existing buildings it is our ambition to assist all our clients towards net zero.

Please provide a summary of the net zero initiatives that you have implemented: Our vehicle fleet has been converted to low co2 vehicles including hybrid and fully electric. We have converted existing natural gas boiler installations to hybrid systems by installing air source heat pumps. We provide advice and support to our clients improve their energy efficiency, including undertaking energy surveys. Our compliance service packages include combustion performance analysis ensuring our clients equipment is operating at is optimum efficiency levels. We offer retrofit options to existing buildings including energy efficient control strategies, efficient boiler systems, renewables and variable speed drives. We have assessed our internal operations and achieved UKAS certification to ISO 14001.

Please provide details of the results associated with the net zero initiatives that you have implemented: Lord work with NHS facility managers, schools and site owners to make smart decisions on reducing their environmental footprint. When Edgbaston cricket stadium’s hot water system needed updating, Lord halved the number of gas-fired appliances and amended the system design to improve efficiency and output. Lord have improved energy efficiency at a number of school sites including retrofitting air source heat pumps as part of the Government decarburisation programme and empowering premises managers to reduce energy costs with modern control by web-based systems with efficient software strategies. Lord are increasing the number of clients reducing fossil fuel usage and using more efficient systems.

Please tell us about any future net zero initiatives that you plan to implement: We continue to introduce improvements to our service offering, developing our range of products / solutions and the skill levels of our engineers. We continue to evolve and react as we prepare for the transition from traditional fossil fuels to renewables and sustainable energy.

Please tell us about any net zero related accreditations or awards you have received: UKAS Certified ISO 14001 In November 2021 Lord was recognised for its achievements in reducing clients’ environmental impact by winning the sustainability trophy at the West Midlands Business Masters Awards, organised by regional news website Business Desk, for the team’s work in supporting clients to reduce their environmental impact.
